Carole Small
Carole began painting in 1983 while pregnant with her first son. After moving to Maui, Hawaii, in 1985 she studied art with Joelle Chicheportich-Perz, who was born in France and moved to Maui in 1982. While living in Maui, Carole managed internationally acclaimed Dyanson Gallery in Whaler’s Village, Lahaina, HI., where she was fortunate to host Yoko Ono presenting a series of lithographs by her late husband, John Lennon. It was this time in Carole’s life she realized her dream of being one of the artists in her own gallery.
Life sometimes gets in the way of dreams. After retiring first from a 25-year career in mortgage banking, then going back to school at a “ripe ole age,” to become a registered nurse, finally, having recently retired from her second career as a Hospice Nurse, it was time to make that lifelong dream come true!
In 2019 Carole began painting again and quickly won second place in her first juried show for her painting, Red Roses. (Guess what, she came in second behind Chaz Speed, her mother.) In 2020 Carole and her husband, Byron, moved from Brazoria County to Navasota, TX. after purchasing the Red Velvet Inn as their primary residence. She began studying with Bruce Piel, famous landscape artist, who encouraged her to paint daily and make her dream of becoming an artist and gallery owner a reality.
Carole specializes in equine Art, painting with both oils and acrylics on canvas. She has two works, Paniolo Sunrise and Pretty Boy, both on display at the Mayan Dude Ranch in Bandera, TX. She also paints on old windows creating art designed for the outdoors. Her subject matter and style are evolving. Commissions are welcome!
